It's simple to eat well while you're staying in our cottages.

You'll find an amazing range of excellent produce in Abergavenny; the Market Hall is a must visit! The busiest markets are on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, with food stalls selling fruit and veg, meat, cheese, bread and cakes. On the fourth Thursday of every month (9am - 12 noon), there's a lovely range of produce at the Farmers' Market (forthcoming dates are 26 Oct, 23 Nov 2023 and and 25 Jan 2024. The Market Hall also comes alive at night once a month for the Street Food and Craft Night Market (forthcoming dates are 28 Sept, 26 Oct, 23 Nov and 21 Dec 2023) - enjoy delicious food and drink in a lively atmosphere. If you're searching for extra special Christmas presents, visit the Christmas Markets on 26 Nov and 10 Dec.

Angel Bakery pastries

Head to The Angel Bakery for freshly-baked bread and pastries, and an exciting range of cupboard staples such as pulses, oils, tea and coffee. Madame Fromage offers not only a marvellous selection of cheeses and accompaniments, but a truly delicious range of grazing platters. Order in advance, collect from the shop, and you'll have a delicious evening-in. The staff are very knowledgeable, and keen to answer questions about the wide variety of produce they offer.

If you're keen to make bread yourself, join Rachael, the Abergavenny Baker, on one of her themed bread courses. Choose from British, Nordic, French, Italian or Christmas baking. Rachael combines her career as a doctor with her love of baking, and her animated style makes her the perfect host for a really enjoyable day in the kitchen.

At Neil Powell, Master Butchers since 1857, the friendly butchers will advise you on what cut of meat to choose, and will be able to tell you where in Monmouthshire or Herefordshire the meat came from. There's a long history behind this butchers shop and the staff are proud to offer an unrivalled product and service. Pies, pasties, sausage rolls, quiches and other ready-to-eat foods are made daily. In nearby Crickhowell, Cashells Butchers & Delicatessen is a delight for the senses, with a wide range of foods and an interesting selection of drinks including various meads from Wye Valley Meadery.

This region is blessed with a mild climate so you'll find vineyards dotted around the countryside, including the award-winning White Castle Vineyard which offers a Deluxe Vineyard Tour & Wine Tasting. Try your hand at Cider Making at Kate's Country School where you'll learn about keeping an orchard, pressing apples, and making the perfect cider. The day includes tastings and a box of cider to take home. A little further afield is Silver Circle Distillery where you can create your own recipe and distill it in a miniature copper still, before heading home with a bottle of your very own gin!
